Josephine’s father, Col. Hermon Aiken, had quite an adventurous life. Well after his death in 1860, his journals were found in a well. Evidently he had hid them. This story recounts several incidents experienced by Hermon Aiken. Some pertain to the Mexican war (1846-48), some about dealing with Indians in the new open state of Texas, some touch on Hermon’s relationship with Sam Houston. All interesting!
